The Picnic Pavilion is the first phase in the Faith Christian Church master plan which includes a 26,000 SF worship/multipurpose space, athletic fields, gardens, baptistery, and concession stand, situated within a 14 acre site. An extension of the overall design of the master plan, the Picnic Pavilion resolved its form through structural issues pertaining to the span of the canopy. The process of construction moves from slab, through columns and trusses, to ribs and joists that support the canopy. By tilting up the canopy, water is forced to shed in a deliberate and controlled direction.

The Picnic Pavilion was built like many structures in Rural America: neighbors came out and helped when they could; a new type of barn-raising. I was involved in construction administration, general construction and materials research for this project. The pic.pav was built over a series of weekends and week furloughs with michael mcinturf ARCHITECTS working as architect and general contractor.
