Welcome
Welcome to simOTR, an interactive journey through time and space. This site is the culmination of 10 weeks of research and study of Over-the-Rhine located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The layout of the www and the city, both spatially and in figural form are analogous in as much as both are constantly changing and reforming. Both the web and the city have vastly differing population, incomes, opinions and views on how it should be formed. There are governments, businesses, non-profits, and average citizens with countless others populating both the city and the web. The main difference is the spatial profile, and navigation. The web is asynchronous, and non-linear. The city has a path, place, and destination.
At least historically cities have had these elements. Today the breakup of this powerful spatial principle has been a fatal blow to the city. In this studio, we have been forced to look at this issue, closely. Our response has been simple: this city is too valuable, rich and complex for us to control it. The aim of this site is to view cause and effect, system variations and trends.
In no was does this model even come close to approximating the dynamism of the city. The idea of the city, and this web site, is an act of process and progress. Please start your investigation of the city by pushing start at the top right corner.
